Straight Edge

Straight Edge refers to a lifestyle that started with the hardcore punk subculture whose adherents make a lifetime commitment to refrain from drinking alcohol, using tobacco products, and taking recreational drugs.
The letter X is the symbol of straight edge, worn as a marking or tattoo on the back of one or both hands, though it can be displayed on other body parts. Some followers of straight edge have also incorporated the symbol into clothing and pins. They also were baggy trousers, big shirts, could be they have a chain, big trainers like skaters, and a baggy top with a hood.

They listen to Hardcore music that is a genre that comes from punk. It is characterized for have fast and aggressive drums rhythms. Some argentinian hardcore bands are .Nueva Etica, Good Clean Fun, Otra Salida, N.D.I, Eterna Inocencia, etc. and some international bands are Comeback Kid, Minor Threat, Rise Against, etc.

They spend their free time skateboarding at the street, making song about the animal rights, against to alcohol and drugs.

Gothic Lolitas


There is a gang in Buenos Aires called Gothic Lolitas. It’s just for girls.
It’s relative new and it’s not normal to see them. Girls who belong to this gang are very trendy and sexy but they are also innocent and sweet. They always wear black and white skirts with corsets or dresses set with petticoats. This dress is accompanied by accessories like loops, bags, books, parasols, rabbit ears and/or gloves.
Their clothes came from Japanese cartons called anime.
First people used to go disguised to meetings where people also liked manga and anime. In the actuality, gothic lolitas and other gangs are seen walking around by people every day.
It’s true that they listen to Japanese music, but like any other teenager, they also listen to different kinds of music, like international rock, pop or heavy metal.
They always meet at “plaza del pizzurno”. This is the park where a lot of gangs spend their time. Lolitas also meet at the coffee shop placed in “The bond street”. They can buy clothes there too.
Gothic lolitas are not a big gang, perhaps because the society doesn’t accept them at all. Anyway, I think they are nice and they deserve to have a place in this world.

Emos

Emos are a popular group of our country. They wear black, gray and red clothes and use black make-up. They use their hear on the face, because they think that if they do this, they only can see the good things of the life. They use pearcings, tattoo. They listen heavy metal and punk-rock like this bands: My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco and 30 Seconds to Mars. They like movies like The strange Jack´s world and other from the director Tim Burton. They are usually sad and they cut their skin with knife, scissors, glasses, because they want to show their pain and sadness. Most of their fame is because they don’t get on well with floggers. They are their opposite. People say that those groups always argue with each other. They don´t get on well with their parents.

Punks

This text talks about a subculture called Punks

Punk is a gang. They’re emerged from England in the ’70. They wear tight trousers, leather studded jackets and big leather boots. They wear steel earrings, chains, piercings and their hair is colourful and standed in spikes. They also usually decorate their jackets with “Anarchy” patches and buttons of different punk bands. They wear eyeliner too and they are an anti-fashion peer. They are harmless but most of the people try to don’t get so close to them because they look much different than the rest of the people and the rest of the other gangs.

Their principal music influence are bands like “The sex Pistols”, “The Ramones” and “The Clash”, this bands play punk rock and hardcore punk music. Their best songs are “Anarchy in the UK”, “God save the queen”, “Blitzkrieg Bop” and “Complete control”. Most of the punk songs talk about anarchy and a world with no political leaders.

Punks have no specifically activities but they use to hang around different places with other gang members, and most of the punks know how to play some instrument so they spend some of their free time playing them.

The Floggers (by Axel and Tamara)

The floggers is a very extensed group of people in Argentina that wear very untypical and colorful clothes and for the most of the people in the country, they are not normal persons. This gang has a very special likeness about the clothes. They usually wear an horrible cotton t-shirts with a v-neck. But these t-shirts there aren’t typical with two or three colours, on the contrary these t-shirts have many colours like red, orange, green and phosphorescent yellow. They also wear tight jeans, called “Chupines”, that all the floggers, at least have one of them. These “trendy” trousers (they think this) usually have awful bright colours.

This gang of people is into electro music. This is a kind of music that they listen in the places where they go to dance, and most of them have this music in their mobile phones. But it isn’t only a kind of music, because there is a special dance for the electro that, in our opinion, is the most ridiculous dance in all the world.

Finally, they spend their free time dancing or listening electro music. The floggers also, usually meet in the Abasto Shopping where they hang around looking for other groups of floggers, to get on with them. They take photos theirselves with lates generation cameras or mobile phones. Also they spend many hours to make up (the girls) and the most important quality of the floggers: to iron the hair and brush their fringe for the side.

We chose floggers:
They are a group of people, which has become so popular in the last time. They wear a long colorful t-shirt with a design, and a yellow, red, blue, purple and green tight denim jeans. They wear a fashionable Nike, All stars, Vans or pony shoes.
The brands that they wear are: All stars, Pony, Vans, Wanama, Kevingston, and Bensimon. Usually they wear a cap or a necklace or a charity bracelet.
They wear a lot of make up and they cut their hair with a strange form, it’s like a woman.
They always listen techno music, the DJs that they use to listen are: DJ Tiesto and DJ Sasha. While they listen to techno music they dance. They move their legs and foots very fast all the moment.
The floggers spend their free time hanging around on the Abasto shopping. They take photos of themselves, seat on the stairs, listen techno music and dance. Every Sunday always all the floggers go to Abasto.
Always on Friday or Saturdays night they go to parties and disco.
They have a fotolog, a website where floggers load their pictures and the other floggers write some comments. They use this to know new people.
Cumbio is the name of the queen flogger. She has eight million of signs in her fotolog, all the floggers love her and she is famous. She goes to the TV programs and a lot of people hate her.

Rappers, made in NYC

The rappers have born in New York City, you can see them in Queens, Bronx or Brooklyn, their native boroughs. there (in NYC), most of the rappers are from the black community. they use to wear baggy trousers, big leather trainers, wide colorful jumpers and all types of jewelry, heavy golden necklaces or chains, some also have gold teeth’s. They always wear hats, even if it's cloudy.
Obviously, they listen to rap or hip hop, most of the rappers invent their own raps, and they do that by mixing words with rhythm to describe a situation or whatever it comes to their minds, sometimes only to make music. Street rappers (differencing them to professional) invent their own raps in the moment, so they are excellent improvising.
In the last 20 years, rap has become known around the World.
One of the most famous rappers in the World is Marshall Bruce Mathers, best known as EMINEM. In this expansion around the world, the "rap-style" has been adapted in many different ways depending on the country.
In many countries, the “rapper style” has been tried to copy. The people maybe can copy their way to wear, but, what makes you a rapper is the creativity, that’s the essence.

floggers

Hi! my name is Paul and i will talk about floggers. They are a very big group of people. Their most representative reference is a flogger named Cumbio. She has been to some T.V programmes where the people ask about her sexual orientation.
The floggers usually wear closefitting, pants, phosphoresents caps, t-shirts with thier caller neek in V, phophoresents trainers, some strange hairstyles and the girls sometimes wear a bright red lipstick.
They always listen to techno music.
They have invented a dance and when they dance they say they are dancing electro.
In my opinion, the floggers don´t wear the clothes of the style of music they listen to.
The floggers spend their time going to shopping abasto (Buenos Aires, Argentina, Capital Federal) where they always meet each other to talk, dance, liste to music, take photos (specially with cumbio and the other that i can´t remember his name now) and ocasionally they fight with "the cumbieros" or the "hip hopers". When they are at home they only use the computer to search for some fotologs in the internet. The fotologs are websites where you can look at photos and leave a comment.

The Hippies

The Hippies
We are going to talk about the peer called hippie.
The hippies are a group of people that was created in the Vietnam War in 1958. This gang fought against the war and they are known for their famous sentence: “Make love not war”. They also made manifestations against the war and the military forces.
The hippies took a part of the Indian culture, so they have similar clothes. They wear dirties, big, colorful and baggie clothes, like ripped jeans or “batik” T-shirts. (This is an easy method you can paint you clothes). Some of them wear colorful hair-bands on their long hair; sunglasses like John Lennon (a singer of The Beatles) or sandals on their foot. It’s only natural that they have everywhere (in bags, trousers, etc) a peace patch like the picture on the right.
Their favorite singers are the Beatles, the most famous band at that time. Their songs are listened nowadays, some of them are: “All you need is love”, “I wanna hold your hand” and “Let it be”.
This gang is harmless, because they are very peaceful. One of their favorite’s activities is practice meditation. They usually spend a lot of time at parks, playing guitars or hanging around. Unfortunately some of them are also known for having drugs, like marihuana or cocaine.
Now, a new group called neo-hippie is in the street. They don’t do exactly the same stuff that the old hippies do, like the free love, but they are still wearing colorful and baggies clothes. Many people think that this kind of people isn’t harmless but as far as we are concerned the hippies are the most pacific gang in the world.

The floggers

In this text we are going to talk about the popular urban group called “Floggers”.

They usually wear colorful tight jeans, very big sun glasses, piercings, colorful cotton t-shirts with big designs, Converse shoes and they always wear clothes of popular marks like Adidas or Nike. Girls often use a lot of eyeliner and lipstick. They use long hair and their bangs covering one eye.
In generally the floggers listen to electronic music that is a type of music made by computer, they have their phones loaded of these songs because they dance electro with the phone in the ear or use it as a ring tone.
Floggers usually spend their free time hanging around the Abasto Shopping Center, in that place, they like to dance to the music they like (electronic music) and talk to each other. Sometimes, they have fights with the other gangs that also hang around there. They also like taking photos and uploading to their fotologs (that are web pages where they put their photos) where they comment about their photos.
